Subject: | Unauthorized Use of an Electronic Tracking Device |
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce Senate Bill 1119 that protects individuals from the unauthorized use of an electronic tracking device. While tracking devices have been in use for decades, the recent release of the Apple AirTag has resulted in a low cost proliferation of these devices. Though meant for lawful purposes such as locating commonly misplaced items, some individuals are using them for nefarious purposes. Whether it be placing them in people’s purses or on their vehicles when unaware, current law is vague on criminal culpability. This legislation will address current law to ensure all our residents are protected. Previous co-sponsors of this legislation were: Robinson, J.
