Subject: Recognizing “National Senior Citizens Day” in Pennsylvania
 
This resolution would recognize August 21, 2024, as “National Senior Citizens Day” in the Commonwealth. This annual celebration raises awareness about issues that impact senior citizens and the resources available to them.

Pennsylvania is home to more than 2.5 million residents aged 65 and older, with an older adult population growth rate more than 20 times higher than the growth rate of its entire population. Pennsylvania remains a popular location for aging and older adults to reside, as numerous rankings indicate that the Commonwealth is one of the best destinations to retire in the United States. 

“National Senior Citizens Day” encourages communities to appreciate their Senior Citizens and raises awareness about the unique needs and challenges that they face.
