Subject: Designating March 29, 2024, as Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day in Pennsylvania

On March 29, 1973, the last of the United States combat troops departed from Vietnam. Since its national designation in 2017, every year on March 29, the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration honors Vietnam veterans. On this day, people join together to remember and thank the many veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice in the Vietnam War.

Between the years 1954 and 1975, the Vietnam War claimed the lives of 58,220 United States military personnel. Of that total, 3,147 Pennsylvanians lost their lives as well. Over five million veterans of the Vietnam War are estimated to be alive today, though many struggle with health conditions derived from their time in service, such as hearing loss, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or the many health effects caused by exposure to Agent Orange.

To recognize the sacrifices made during the Vietnam War, we are introducing a resolution to designate March 29, 2024, as “Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day” in Pennsylvania. This resolution honors the memories of all those who served, including those who died during their service, those missing in action, and those dealing with the effects of their service such as behavioral health issues, physical trauma, and Agent Orange exposure.

Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution honoring our residents’ service and sacrifice during the Vietnam War.
