Subject: | Recognizing April 14 through 20, 2024, as “Public Safety Telecommunicators Week” in Pennsylvania |
Public safety telecommunicators, or 911 dispatchers, provide valuable and life-saving instructions to callers facing traumatic events. They are the first point of contact in a chain of responders during an emergency. Their roles are often challenging and thankless, and frequently, these workers go above and beyond to serve people who may be going through the most difficult moments of their lives. These workers must remain calm and confident and work quickly to collect accurate information, assess the situation, and provide aid, including sending the appropriate first responders to the correct location. Approximately 2,500 public safety telecommunicators work in Pennsylvania to process the nearly 14.5 million requests for emergency assistance they receive across the state annually. Since 1994, the United States has recognized the second week of April as "National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week." We will, therefore, be introducing a resolution to recognize the week of April 14 through 20, 2024, as "Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Pennsylvania." Please join us in sponsoring this resolution to recognize our public safety telecommunicators for their dedicated service and commitment to their critical roles. |
