MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 26, 2023 02:28 PM
From: Representative James B. Struzzi, II
To: All House members
Subject: Highway Designation: Robindale, Indiana County

In the near future, I will introduce legislation to designate a stretch of highway in my district.

The town of Robindale in Indiana County has confronted numerous hardships during its history. Robindale, located on a bend near the Conemaugh River between Seward and New Florence in Indiana County, was developed in 1915 as a company town by the Conemaugh Smokeless Coal Co. Throughout the town's history, the community was victim to three severe floods: The Great Johnstown Flood of 1889, St. Patrick's Day Flood of 1936, and the Flood of July 20, 1977, which wiped the town away.

The community also faced two tragic mining accidents that claimed the lives of 11 dedicated coal miners who toiled tirelessly to support their town. Robindale demonstrates the strength and inspiring community support that remains in the area and with the residents who once called the town home.

My legislation will establish the Robindale Memorial Highway to preserve the memory of Robindale and encourage the community to continue working through challenges and foster a sense of unity. I kindly request your support and co-sponsorship in making this meaningful legislation a reality.
