MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 28, 2023 09:37 AM
From: Representative Danielle Friel Otten and Rep. Nancy Guenst, Rep. Paul Takac
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing October 1 through 7, 2023, as “Climate Week” in Pennsylvania

Climate change is the most serious and immediate environmental threat confronting Pennsylvania, the United States, and the world.

Climate change is more than simply an increase in temperatures. It brings extreme weather events, risks to our food supply, and an increase in droughts and floods, wildfires, and costs for federal, state, and local governments as they struggle to contend with the impacts to infrastructure, public safety, and public health.

It is our duty as elected officials to take action to combat this harm and provide communities across Pennsylvania with the resources they need to advance local climate action. For this reason, we are introducing a resolution to recognize the week of October 1 through 7, 2023, as “Climate Week” to raise awareness of the urgent need for climate action in Pennsylvania and the importance of working to mitigate the costs and effects of the climate crisis in rural, urban, and suburban communities across the commonwealth.

Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution as we work to build a Pennsylvania that is stronger, more resilient, more sustainable, and more equitable for present and future generations.
