Subject: | Designating September 2023 as “National Recovery Month” in Pennsylvania |
While 22 million Americans are in recovery, substance use disorders continue to take many lives. Although drug overdose rates in Pennsylvania have recently declined, a reported 5,209 Pennsylvanians died from February 2022 to February 2023. These are parents, children, siblings, neighbors, colleagues, and friends who we may know and love. The recovery process is a complicated process, especially with finding housing, financial resources, family and friend support, and a healthy environment. We need to raise awareness and continue ensuring that individuals with substance use disorders get the treatments and support they need through their recovery journeys. These are the reasons why we are introducing a resolution to designate September 2023 as “National Recovery Month.” Since 1989, National Recovery Month has been observed across the nation to support the substance use and mental health recovery community. By recognizing this month, we recommit our support to the prevention, treatment and recovery from substance use disorders in Pennsylvania. Please join us in cosponsoring this resolution to designate September 2023 as “National Recovery Month” in Pennsylvania. |
