MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 27, 2023 01:01 PM
From: Representative Nick Pisciottano and Rep. G. Roni Green
To: All House members
Subject: Protecting the Safety of Hotel Workers

All Pennsylvania workers deserve a safe workplace. Yet, hospitality workers in the hotel industry, many of whom are women, face daily exposure to unwanted sexual advances, harassment, and violence.  Working in unattended guest rooms makes these individuals especially vulnerable. Without protection, their health, lives, and livelihoods are in jeopardy at their job every single day.

My legislation will increase protections for these workers by requiring hotel employers to provide devices which serve as “panic buttons” for employees working alone servicing guestrooms.  Provided at no cost to the employee, the devices immediately summon management and security personnel to the employee’s location when activated.

Hotel workers should feel secure in servicing hotel guests knowing assistance is readily available at all times should they face an attack. I hope you will join me in reducing the risk these workers face at their job and ensuring their safety and security.
