Subject: Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month – June 2023

Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease that affects families across Pennsylvania; in 2020 alone, 280,000 residents were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. These residents are our family members, our friends, and our neighbors. Last year alone, nearly half a million Pennsylvania family caregivers provided over half a billion hours of unpaid care to individuals with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.  And while these individuals may lose their memories or other mental functions, we will never forget them and the impact they have had and continue to make on our lives.

It is for this reason that we plan to introduce a resolution to commemorate June 2023 as Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. Recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association, June marks a month of remembrance for the more than 55 million people living in the United States with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia and why it is ever so critical to search for a cure. Previous action has been taken in this Commonwealth to ensure Alzheimer’s research is supported, and this resolution will serve as a reminder that the good work must continue.

We support access to quality healthcare and believe a cure for Alzheimer’s is within our ability to solve in our lifetimes. Please consider joining us in co-sponsoring this resolution in commemorating June 2023 as Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.
