A RESOLUTION
Designating May 20, 2024, as "Rescue Dog Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "National Rescue Dog Day" was established in 2018 to
raise awareness for dogs in shelters and rescue kennels; and
WHEREAS, There were more than 14,000 sheltering organizations
operating in the United States in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 2 million dogs are adopted from
shelters in the United States each year; and
WHEREAS, More than 14,000 dogs were adopted from shelters in
this Commonwealth in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Shelters are struggling to handle increased
populations of dogs; and
WHEREAS, "National Rescue Dog Day" promotes the adoption of
dogs from shelters and the spaying and neutering of pets to
reduce shelter populations; and
WHEREAS, "National Rescue Dog Day" promotes the proper care
and treatment of pets to prevent increases in shelter intake and
ensure that rescue dogs live healthy lives; and

WHEREAS, Adopting dogs from a shelter can give them a second
chance at a "forever home"; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 20,
2024, as "Rescue Dog Day" in Pennsylvania.
