A RESOLUTION
Commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Daughters of the
American Revolution.
WHEREAS, The National Society Daughters of the American
Revolution was founded on October 11, 1890; and
WHEREAS, The Daughters of the American Revolution is an
organization with a deeply rich history while also being truly
relevant in today's world; and
WHEREAS, More than 930,000 women have joined the organization
since it was founded; and
WHEREAS, The historical, educational and patriotic objectives
of the organization have remained the same throughout its
history of active service to the nation: to perpetuate the

memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American
independence, to promote "as an object of primary importance,
institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge" for the
development of an enlightened public opinion, as conveyed by
President George Washington in his 1796 farewell address to the
American people, and to cherish, maintain and extend the
institutions of American freedom by fostering true patriotism
and love of country; and
WHEREAS, The organization helps to preserve cultural heritage
by restoring and maintaining historical sites, restoring and
marking Revolutionary War patriot grave sites and headstones,
organizing and contributing to major restorations and memorials
and preserving genealogical records, artifacts and historical
documents, which are made available to the public at the
headquarters of the organization; and
WHEREAS, The organization supports schools, student programs
and students through donations of money and personal time,
scholarships, awards, educational camps and cultural programs;
and
WHEREAS, The organization provides more than 200,000 hours of
volunteer time annually to veterans in hospitals and other
facilities; and
WHEREAS, The organization offers support to America's service
personnel in current conflicts abroad through care packages,
phone cards and other needed items; and
WHEREAS, The organization participates in naturalization
ceremonies; and
WHEREAS, The organization presents patriotic and community
service awards to deserving individuals; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate the
