A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 2 through 10, 2015, as "National
Travel and Tourism Week" and May 5, 2015, as "Tourism Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The week of May 2 through 10, 2015, has been
selected as "National Travel and Tourism Week," and May 5, 2015,
has been selected as "Tourism Day" in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, "National Tourism Week" was established in 1983 when
the Congress of the United States passed a joint resolution
designating a week in May 1984 as "National Tourism Week" and,
in a White House ceremony, the President of the United States
signed a Presidential proclamation urging citizens to observe
the week with the appropriate ceremonies and activities; and

WHEREAS, The travel and tourism industry of this Commonwealth
has selected May 5, 2015, as "Tourism Day" in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Tourism is Pennsylvania's second-largest industry
and a major contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth,
accounting for an annual economic impact of $41 billion; and
WHEREAS, Tourism supports a work force of more than 479,000
people, with 1 out of every 16 Pennsylvania jobs relying on
travel-and-tourism-related industries; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is one of the most visited states in
the country, with an estimated 193 million domestic visits
annually; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 2
through 10, 2015, as "National Travel and Tourism Week" and May
5, 2015, as "Tourism Day" in Pennsylvania.
